The Simple Life

European roots meet Americana

Bart de Win has released two solo albums so far, on which he gave his very own and authentic interpretation of americana music, exploring the boundaries between folk, countryrock, jazz, gospel and blues. Together with his  band ‘The Simple Life’ he’ll guide you over the endless blue  highways, to the American small town bars and honky tonks.

The simple life

The debut album ‘The simple life’, with fifteen original English songs, was launched in October 2009 through Rough Trade/Double Click Music. It was produced by the talented London based musician Gilad Atzmon, who also put his clarinet and saxophone to the record. ‘The simple life’ received marvellous press reviews and a lot of airplay. Bart recorded the album with his longtime musical companions Arthur Lijten, Rinus Raaijmakers, Harry Hendriks and B.J. Baartmans. Various guest musicians  contributed to the album, like for example the famous trumpettist Eric Vloeimans, singer Izaline Calister and fiddle player Joost van Es.

Little world

January 2011 Bart’s second album saw the  light. It was completely recorded and mixed in Austin, Texas, and it was  produced by the great Walt Wilkins, who can also be held responsible for the production of Sam Baker’s albums 'Pretty World' and 'Mercy'. A bunch of great Texan musicians, like Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Kim Deschamps and The Mystiqueros contributed to the record. Again Gilad Atzmon added his beautiful clarinet playing. The album was preceded by the release of the single ‘Minute of your time’. The second single ‘Summer dresses’ came with a sunny Texan video clip.

Both albums ‘The simple life’ (2009) en ‘Little world’ (2011) were received very well. (See ‘press’.) Bart’s musical style is often compared to Randy Newman, James Taylor and Tom Waits.
